Success at Malko Competition in Copenhagen

From 612 applicants worldwide, Chloe was selected as the youngest of 24 participants in the prestigious Malko Conducting Competition, held in Copenhagen every three years. Chloe brought drama, character and joy to her first performance with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra - Weber's Der Freischutz Overture - which won her a place as one of 12 conductors in the second round. She then conducted excerpts from Mahler's 4th Symphony, and Nielsen's 5th Symphony, noted for bringing intense expressivity in this latter work.

Chloe made her mark on the competition and was noted by Gramophone critic Andrew Mellor for her work in the competition:

"Who could resist the infectious joy of Chloe Rooke from the UK? She transformed the energy of the concert hall completely"

"Many will leave Copenhagen this weekend with memories of Chloe Rooke, the young British conductor who lit the competition up with her sense of music’s joy and communicative potential."

She also featured in a portrait video where she discussed her role as a conductor, a changing landscape in leadership, and the power of music.
